Decatur man charged with rape may be linked to 4 more assaults

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police said they have arrested a man on rape charges after he followed a woman home and then sexually assaulted her.

Investigators said Garry Mincey, 35, followed a woman home from the Publix grocery store on Flakes Mill Road.

Officers said Mincey then snuck into the woman's home while she unloaded her groceries. Police said that is when he sexually assaulted the woman and then stole her cellphone and laptop.

Police said Mincey then took off in a dark SUV.

Investigators said they spotted the SUV the next day in the same area as the Publix. Officers said Mincey was arrested after a brief chase.

Mincey has been charged with rape, armed robbery, burglary and false imprisonment and is currently in the DeKalb County Jail.

Investigators said Mincey is believed to have entered her home through the garage area while she unloaded her groceries. He allegedly sexually assaulted her before stealing some possessions, including a cellphone and laptop, and fleeing in a dark-colored SUV. The woman then contacted police.

Mincey was arrested the next day following a short chase after authorities investigating the case saw a suspicious vehicle near Flakes Mill Road, police said.

Detectives believe he may be linked to four other sexual assaults in the past two months, police said. The investigation is continuing.

Mincey is in the DeKalb County Jail charged with rape, armed robbery, burglary and false imprisonment.
