Houston-area football coach Chad Hunt found dead after allegations of student sex

LEAGUE CITY, TX -- A high school is in shock after a coach takes his own life while being investigated for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student. The news was a bombshell a coach under suspicion takes his own life.


It's been a tearful day on the campus of Clear Creek High School as many students heard for the first time their football coach and track coach, Chad Hunt, died in an apparent suicide.


Hunt, 40, was suspected of an improper relationship between an educator and a student. Police say the parents of the teenage girl initiated contact with authorities after suspecting an inappropriate relationship.


Those allegations, say authorities, were made Sunday. By Tuesday, Hunt was placed on administrative leave at Clear Creek High School and was interviewed by League City Police detectives. At the time, police authorities say Hunt did not appear to be emotionally unstable.


Early Wednesday, Hunt's body was found inside his Jeep parked off of FM 2403 in Brazoria County. Authorities say he appeared to have committed suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot.


Neighbors were shocked by Hunt's death.

The Clear Creek Independent School District said Hunt had been placed on administrative leave with pay Tuesday pending the outcome of the investigation.
According to League City police, the case surrounded a possible inappropriate relationship between Hunt and a female student.
Hunt was a track and football coach at Clear Creek High School. He had been with the district for five years.
School officials said a team of counselors would be on hand Thursday morning and throughout the day to talk to students and staff.
Some students who knew Hunt couldn't believe the turn of events.
"Just not to see him in school again is going to be hard," said Jose Gonzalez.
Parents called the allegations against Hunt disturbing.
"It just makes you think you can't trust anybody," said Sandy Ledford. "You just never know what's going on in their minds."
