Mom convicted setting fire to home, killing 2 of her young kids

A Huron Township woman accused of setting a trailer fire that killed her 3-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son was found guilty of murder Wednesday.
A Wayne County Circuit Court jury convicted Sharon Hinojosa of first-degree murder and arson.
Authorities say Hinojosa, then 29, set a fire Oct. 9, 2009, in her boyfriend's Huron Township trailer. Four-year-old Anthony and 3-year-old Alayna Hinojosa were killed.

Sharon Hinojosa was convicted by a Wayne County Circuit Court jury today of felony murder, two counts of premeditated murder and arson of a dwelling house and is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 30, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hinojosa is accused of setting her boyfriend’s mobile home on fire in October 2009, with two of her children, ages 3 and 4, inside.

Authorities have said after she set the home on fire, Hinojosa grabbed the child she had with her boyfriend and ran out of the door, leaving her two other children, who were screaming and crying for help, behind.
