Suspected serial rapist allegedly follows woman home from Publix, assaults her

DeKalb County police have arrested a suspected rapist, charging him in connection with the rape of a woman he allegedly stalked as she was leaving a Publix grocery store.


According to police spokeswoman Mekka Parrish, Garry W. Mincey, 35, followed a woman, in her 20s, from the store on Flakes Mill Road to her home in the vicinity of Columbia Drive on Tuesday.


As the victim unloaded her groceries from the car, Mincey gained access to her home through the garage area and then sexually assaulted and robbed her of personal belongings including a cell phone and laptop, Parrish said.


Following the assault, he fled the location in a dark SUV and the victim contacted the police, authorities said.


On Nov. 30, detectives were following up on leads and observed an SUV fitting the description of the suspect's in an area near Flakes Mill Road, Parrish said.


Mincey was later arrested following a brief pursuit. He is currently lodged in the DeKalb County Jail where he is charged with rape, armed robbery, burglary and false imprisonment.


On Wednesday police arrested the man who they believe may have sexually assaulted four other women in October and November.

Investigators said Mr. Mincey followed a woman in her 20s from the Publix grocery store at 3649 Flakes Mill Road to her home near Columbia Drive.


While the woman was unloading her groceries from the car, Mr. Mincey allegedly gained access to her home through the garage area then raped and robbed her, Ms. Parish said.


He is accused of taking the woman’s cell phone and laptop before driving off in a dark SUV.


On Wednesday, officers spotted a car fitting the description of suspect’s vehicle in an area near Flakes Mill Road and arrested Mr. Mincey after a brief pursuit, Ms. Parish said.
