Alfred, Maine:Police continue search for escaped prisoner

ALFRED, Maine—Police used tracking dogs and two airplanes Saturday as they searched in southern Maine for a man considered armed and dangerous following his escape from a county jail in New Hampshire.

Police were looking for David Glenn Hobson, 33, of Alfred, who escaped Thursday from the Carroll County House of Corrections in Ossipee, N.H., where he was awaiting trial on a burglary charge. Hobson escaped by climbing over the jail's razor-wire fence, officials said.

Police believe Hobson has a gun and is out to harm at least two people he knows in southern Maine, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said. Those people have been notified and are believed to be in a safe location, McCausland said, declining to specify their relationship with Hobson.

"We think he's armed, dangerous and desperate," McCausland said. "And we think he's seriously injured from scaling the fence."

Maine State Police were joined in the search by New Hampshire State Police, the Maine Warden Service, the U.S. Marshals Service and local law enforcement agencies, McCausland said.

Hobson, who has a long criminal record, is described as white, 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighing 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants. His police mug shot shows him with a shaved head.

Hobson fled the jail after scaling a razor wire fence. Investigators found a considerable amount of blood in the stolen SUV, confirming that Hobson was seriously injured scaling the fence, McCausland said.

Troopers, game wardens, deputies and local police, aided by the U.S. Marshal's Service, searched several locations in Alfred and Sanford Saturday and early Sunday morning, with no sightings of Hobson, McCausland said.

On Saturday, police charged Hobson's father, Glenn Hobson, 55, with hindering apprehension and refusing to submit to arrest after he allegedly left a stash of medical supplies, food, water, clothing and blankets outside his Alfred home for his son.

Police ask the public to remain on the lookout for a blue 2004 Honda Accord with license plate number 1 3 5 5 M V that was stolen in Sanford Thursday night or early Friday morning. Hobson may still be connected with that vehicle, McCausland said.

Hobson is five feet, six inches tall, weighs 135 pounds and has a shaved head with a goatee.

Police continue to warn that Hobson should be considered armed, dangerous and desperate. Anyone who sees him or the stolen Honda should call police immediately.

Hobson was imprisoned on a burglary charge. Police have classified him as a “career criminal.” According to McCausland, police believe Hobson escaped from prison to harm two people in York County who have been notified and are in a safe location.
