West Jordan man killed in single-car crash in Fillmore

FILLMORE, Utah - On Saturday morning December 3, 2011, at approximately 5:15am, a single vehicle fatal crash occurred on I-15 at mile marker 167 in Fillmore, Utah.


The driver of a Honda Odyssey van was traveling Southbound on the snow packed roadway when he began to lose control of his vehicle. The van slid off the right side of the roadway and onto the shoulder area where it struck a light pole on the driver's side door.


The driver of the van, Ulises Medina, age 42, from West Jordan, Utah, was killed instantly when the vehicle struck the light pole.


Medina had 4 other family members in the car including his wife, age 29, his mother, age 60, and his two children ages 2 and 4 years old. All 4 passengers were taken by ambulance to Fillmore Hospital with minor injuries.


The victim was identified as Ulises Medina. Four other people in the van sustained minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Fillmore. The other passengers, the man's wife, mother and two children, were wearing safety restraints.


According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Medina was killed instantly once the van collided with the utility pole, striking the driver's side door.


Speed may have been a factor in the accident but the crash remains under investigation.
