Colorado winter storm, yields high wind in Sterling

A winter storm watch will be in effect for much of Colorado late tonight through Thursday afternoon.
Snow is expected to roll onto the Front Range about 11 p.m. and persist until 2 p.m. Thursday. A strong cold front could bring high winds and "dangerously low" wind chills below zero, the National Weather Service said.
The northwestern Colorado mountains could see up to 8 inches of snow driven by winds up to 50 mph.
The storm could bring ice and blowing snow that makes travel extremely dangerous across much of the state, forecasters warned.
The Denver area is expected to get 3 to 5 inches of snow, while the northern and southern Front Range areas could get 3 to 4 inches, according to the forecast.
The Eastern Plains could see 2 to 6 inches of snow driven by wind gusts up to 25 mph, with the most trouble expected south of Interstate 76.

Heavy wind is buffeting Sterling as the predicted winter storm moves across Colorado this morning.
While Logan County remains a part of the winter weather advisory that is in effect until 2 p.m., just a dusting of snow is visible on the ground in Sterling. Wind speeds are around 28 miles per hour, making the 32 degree air feel like 20 degrees.
The Colorado Department of Transportation reports that roads heading east from Sterling are experiencing high wind but are otherwise dry. To the west, though, plan for snowy or wet roads, combined with the wind, which could impact travel time.
Those planning to attend the Parade of Lights tonight should bundle up. Temperatures are forecast to fall through the day, reaching about 22 degrees by 5 p.m. While more snow is likely through the morning, the storm will clear off this afternoon. Tonight's low is forecast calls for a low of 11 degrees and mostly clear skies.
The National Weather Service in Denver says Friday's weather is expected to be uneventful, but the area could see more snow this weekend.
